St Johnstone WFC: Rossvale (H) preview
16th January 2025
St Johnstone Women return to Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 action this Sunday afternoon when they welcome Rossvale to Perth.
The match at the Riverside Stadium will kick-off at 1pm and, as always, season tickets are valid for this fixture.
Winger Rachel Howie was on hand to preview the match and said: “For us it’s about finding and maintaining the form we had at the back end of 2024.
“I think we were really unfortunate with all the free weeks and international breaks, along with the Christmas break coming at the wrong time or else we probably could’ve built momentum.
“If we continue to work hard in training and listen to the coaching staff, the games should take care of themselves. We need to go to every game, no matter the opposition, with the mindset that we can come away with points, as we all know that’s what happens in this league.
“As a team I think we know picking up as many points as possible is the main one. We have a good enough squad to be higher up the table, we just need to start producing results that show that.”
Saints are determined to bounce back from a 2-0 away defeat against Gartcairn on Tuesday evening. Both of the goals came early in the first half.
Rachel added: “I think we had a poor first 15 and gave ourselves a bit of a mountain to climb early on. I do think we reacted well, we started to come into the game more and created chances.
“We just need to be more clinical in front of goal and become relentless in that aspect. I was proud of the reaction from the girls, but it was just a shame we were not able to take anything from the game in the end.
“I think a more settled start is needed this week. We looked flustered in the first 15 for no real reason. We need to learn to settle quicker, play with confidence, stick to the game-plan and trust each other from the get-go.
“If we do that, I have full belief that we can take points from the game. Rossvale are a good side, with some talented players. It will be a good match for all involved.”
