St Johnstone WFC: Leah Sidey named in Team of the Week

St Johnstone WFC midfielder Leah Sidey has been named in the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League Team of the Week.

Leah, who only recently signed for Saints, netted her first goal for the club in Sunday’s important 3-2 SWPL2 victory away at Ayr United.

As well as playing a key role in finding the back of the net, she was also credited with winning 17 duels and making eight recoveries.

“It felt really good to score my first goal for the club and I was just happy to be able to help out the team,” Leah said.

“The weather was brutal in the second half but the girls continued to work hard and persevered to get the three points.

“I’m happy to be back enjoying my football again and I just want to keep progressing. I know that the team and the manager can get the best out of me.

“That is two wins in a row now and that is a great feeling. Hopefully we can push for another big win this weekend.”

Elgin are the visitors to the Riverside this coming Sunday in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup. Kick-off will be 1pm.  

Leah added: “We’re all looking forward to Sunday’s match. It’s a big chance for us to move forward and keep the positivity flowing.

“Elgin have been scoring a lot of goals in the league and, of course, we will never underestimate any team.

“We carry a decent support at home games but it would be great to get even more Saints fans watching to help push us on further.”
