LAST TIME OUT: SAINTS
We were last in action on Sunday, January 12 when we faced Rangers at Ibrox.
It was a disappointing start to the game for the Saints and we found ourselves three down within the first half hour following goals from Hamza Igamane, Václav Černý and Mohamed Diomande.
Again, it was a much-improved second half display and we pulled a goal back from the head of Jack Sanders. He nodded in Max Kucheriavyi’s corner with 54 minutes on the clock.
We applied further pressure on Rangers with Makenzie Kirk and Graham Carey both threatening, but the match ended 3-1.
Goalkeeper Andy Fisher made his club debut after arriving on loan from English Championship outfit Swansea City.
LAST TIME OUT: MOTHERWELL
Motherwell’s most recent fixture was a William Hill Premiership tussle with Hibs at Easter Road in Edinburgh, which they lost 3-1.
Martin Boyle and Nectarios Triantis had given the capital club a two-goal advantage by the 30-minute mark and a comfortable half-time lead.
Callum Slattery curled in a second half free-kick to pull a goal back but, not long after, Boyle netted from the penalty spot to create breathing space heading into the final minutes.
Motherwell forward Jack Vale was sent off in stoppage time for taking out Boyle.
PREVIOUS MEETING
Our last meeting with Saturday afternoon’s opponents Motherwell took place back in November at Fir Park.
We had started that particular game brightly but Tawanda Maswanhise ghosted in at the back post to head home a Marvin Kaleta cross for the opener on 20 minutes.
Tom Sparrow would double the hosts’ advantage later in the first half to leave us with a mountain to climb after the break.
We did, however, give ourselves a lifeline when Nicky Clark slotted home a penalty just before the hour mark after Andy Halliday was punished for handball.
Jack Sanders had the ball in the back of the net in the closing stages but the leveller was ruled out following a VAR check.
