Charity match a huge success

We are delighted to report that nearly £400 was raised at Friday night’s charity match between Saints in the Community and Saints Fans Supporting Foodbanks.

The game was a huge success with eight crates of food also being collected from players and supporters on the touchlines.

Head coach Simo Valakari refereed the entertaining contest on the astroturf with the Saints in the Community XI running out 4-2 winners.

Danny Williams of Saints Fans Supporting Foodbanks said: “Aside from an utter travesty of a final score, everyone at Saints Fans Supporting Foodbanks was delighted with Friday night’s match.

“When we got our heads together to arrange this game, we did so with the express purpose of raising awareness of the work of the Foodbank and Saints in the Community at a pertinent time of year, but also trying to raise a little bit to help both of them along and put some smiles on faces.

“With eight full crates of food and toiletries and an incredible amount of cash raised, we came away absolutely delighted and it was fantastic to see everyone there really getting on board with that.

“On behalf of Saints Fans Supporting Foodbanks, I’d like to thank the players on both sides for a fantastic night and what turned out to be a good game of football.

“Particular thanks to the club for all their help along the way and their constant support, to Rebekah Penman and Stuart Cowper for coming out in rainy conditions to provide social media updates and take photographs, and of course the main man Simo Valakari for taking his own personal time to referee. We look forward to the rematch!”

If you couldn’t make it down on Friday evening, Saints Fans Supporting Foodbanks hold collections at all of our men’s and women’s home matches.
