Welcome, Sam Curtis!

Welcome, Sam Curtis!

We are delighted to confirm the signing of defender Sam Curtis, who joins on loan from Sheffield United until the end of the season.

Born in Navan, Ireland, the full-back was on the books of Shamrock Rovers before moving to St Patrick’s Athletic in August 2021, where he became their youngest ever player at 15 years and 255 days old.

The Republic of Ireland youth international picked up the PFAI Young Player of the Year award in 2023 having made 39 senior appearances and helped the Saints win the FAI Cup.

From there, Sam made the move to Sheffield United where he signed a long-term deal until 2027. He made his debut in the English Premier League against Everton.

Most recently the defender spent time on loan at English League One side Peterborough and he is now ready to test himself in the Scottish Premiership with Saints.

After signing his loan deal, Sam said: “I am delighted to be here and I am so excited to get to work.

“After speaking with the manager, seeing the great stadium and meeting with the lads, I am just excited to get out there on the pitch now.

“It is an exciting challenge for me and the team. We want to get ourselves back into a good position in the league. I am hoping to come in and play a big part in that.”

On his discussions with head coach Simo Valakari, Sam added: “The manager made be feel very comfortable. He has told me to come in and just be myself.

“I will just do what I do, that is ultimately why I am at the club and I will continue that. I obviously have to adapt to the team but I won’t change as a person.

“The team like to play football and get forward. We need to be more solid defensively and I look forward to helping with that department as well as getting forward and helping in attack.”

Sam will wear the number 37 jersey at McDiarmid Park and will be available for selection against Motherwell in the Scottish Cup tomorrow.
