U18s: Special moment for Jack Robertson
11th February 2025
It was a particularly special moment for under-18s midfielder Jack Robertson when he swept home the winner against Partick Thistle on Friday night.
The 16-year-old was making his return from back-to-back broken collar bones, which kept him sidelined for a considerable length of time.
Jack netted late on in Glasgow to secure a 4-3 victory in the Club Academy Scotland Performance League. Hector Ashworth and Murray Binnie (2) were also on the scoresheet for the young Saints.
“It was a tough game against Partick Thistle and they are always difficult to beat,” Jack said. “Both teams played well on the night but, in the end, we managed to grab the win.
“I managed to get that winner after a long time out injured, which was nice. Personally it was an amazing moment and feeling, especially considering the time I’d spent out.
“I have had a lot of help from my family and coaches. It was a great way to mark my comeback. There was a lot of relief when I scored too because it was pretty much the last kick of the game, which made it even nicer.
“It is tough when you are out injured, but it is great to be back now and hopefully I can get a run of games.”
The U18s are back in action this Friday evening on the McDiarmid Park astroturf and welcome Livingston. Kick-off will be 7.30pm and all support is welcome.
Jack added: “Livingston will be another tough game as they are doing well in the league. But if we can play how we did against Partick – compact and sensible – then hopefully we can get a win.”
Jack is a local lad to Crieff and attends Morrison’s Academy.
“I started off with my local boys’ team at Crieff Juniors and was going down to the Saturday sessions,” he said. “I got into the development team there.
“I ended up getting scouted for Saints about seven years ago and was initially a defender, but moved into midfield quite quickly.
“I’m a Saints fan so, when I first got the opportunity to come here, it was a no-brainer. My family all come to watch me and their support is always great.”
