St Johnstone WFC: Ayr United (H) preview
31st October 2024
St Johnstone WFC return to SWPL2 action this Sunday and have been preparing for the visit of Ayr United.
The match is scheduled to kick-off at 1pm at the Riverside Stadium (home of Jeanfield Swifts). Season tickets, as always, are valid.
Fresh from an international break, manager Josh Henderson insists his players are raring to go and fully focused on putting in a strong performance.
“The international break probably came at an unfortunate time because our performances had been better,” he explained.
“In saying that, we did have a couple of wee injuries and niggles. Having the extra week has helped with that.
“Our full focus is on Ayr United and we know that one will be a tough game. They won’t make it easy and we need to be ready to show what we can do.”
Saints WFC drew 1-1 with Rossvale in our most recent league fixture. It was a game where we had led for the majority.
“The Rossvale game was a bit of a hard one to take having led for so long,” Josh said. “Conceding later in the game was a sucker punch but we have dusted ourselves off and are ready for Sunday.”
This weekend’s visitors sit bottom of the current standings – one place worse off than ourselves - on four points. We were 4-2 victors in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
Josh said: “We didn’t make it easy for ourselves against Ayr last time out after going down to 10 players in the first half. But we showed great character and team spirit to get back into the game and win 4-2.”
He hopes to have a full squad available for this Sunday’s game.
Kick-off at the Riverside Stadium is 1pm. Season tickets are valid.
