St Johnstone WFC: Alix Moodie's Gartcairn reaction

St Johnstone WFC midfielder Alix Moodie admitted scoring with a stunning strike on Sunday was a bittersweet moment – as three points was the main mission.

Moodie had levelled the game at 2-2 in the second half before Gartcairn managed to pull back in front not long after and hold out for the victory at the Riverside.

“It was good to get on the scoresheet but I’m more about the team,” she said. “I just want us to do well overall.

“I scored a nice goal but, in the end, it didn’t really matter because we were beaten. You want to be contributing when you are winning.”

Moodie felt Saints, who had trailed 2-0 early doors, had momentum behind them after working their way back into the contest.

Of course, there was disappointment when the result turned the other way and she said: “In the first half we let Gartcairn get on top and they bullied us a bit for the opening 25 minutes.

“That is not how we wanted to start the game and we were down 2-0 pretty quickly. When we got the goal back, there was belief in the second half to get something from the game.

“We were definitely the better team in that second half and got the ball down more and passed it about.

“When our second goal went in, it felt like there was a wee bit of a spark. But then they scored shortly after and that was frustrating. It was obviously disappointing not to take anything from the game.”

A trip to Livingston, who sit third in the standings, is next up for Saints on Sunday.

Moodie said: “We need to take the positives and push onto Livingston next week. They are above us in the league and we’ll work as hard as we can to take points off them.

“They like to spread the ball about as well. They drew on Sunday against Boroughmuir – who are level on points with us now – so we’re expecting a good game. Hopefully I can get a few more goals before the season is out.”
