Makenzie Kirk: Belief is strong in squad

Makenzie Kirk says belief is strong in the Saints camp following Saturday afternoon’s 1-1 draw against Dundee at Dens Park.

The in-form forward found the back of the net with an impressive, guided header from a pinpoint Sam Curtis delivery.

While Dundee responded before the break, we battled resolutely in the second half to pick up a point on the road.

“I thought we played well and created a lot of chances,” Kirk said. “We’ve managed to come through here and get a point.

“It was a good counter-attack for the goal. The ball has broken to me in midfield and then Adama has done well to hold it up.

“Sam has seen me in the box and you just need to move with the instinct of a striker – and thankfully the ball has found the net.

“Of course when you score you get a lot of confidence and especially as a striker. As a team we just need to keep believing and take momentum into the next game.

“There is a lot of belief in the changing room. The gaffer believes in every single one of us and we know the fans will stick with us.”

On scoring in front of a packed-out away end, Kirk added: “The fans, week in week out, are brilliant. It was really special scoring in front of that crowd on Saturday and something I will cherish.”

Attention turns to the Scottish Cup on Monday, March 10 when we hit the road to face Livingston in the quarter-final.

“We can take our mind off the league and focus on the Scottish Cup,” Kirk added.

“These games do not come along often. You need to prepare the same way as a league game and look to get the job done. It will be a tough game against Livingston.”
