Kilmarnock Match Preview

St Johnstone are back in action this weekend as they travel to face Kilmarnock.

Last time out

Last time out Saints fell to a 3-0 defeat when they faced Hearts at Tynecastle.

The hosts took the lead on 21 minutes when Josh Ginnelly saw his strike take a deflection off Liam Gordon to take the ball beyond a helpless Remi Matthews.

The Jambos midfielder then got his and Hearts second of the game on 63 minutes as he slotted home from close range.

The Gorgie side wrapped up the points ten minutes later as a cross from Jorge Grant deceived everyone in the box and sneaked at the back post.

Stevie May's thoughts

“Saturday will be a tough match. It has always been a tough place to go over the years, we know we will have our work cut out and we will have to put in a good performance to take anything from it.

“I think our performance against Hearts didn’t reflect a 3-0 scoreline. I think we played some good football during the match. We still have confidence going into this match on Saturday. We know how vital points are at this stage of the season. We have to make sure we don’t slip into a bad run. I am sure Kilmarnock will be desperate to turn their luck around as they will feel they haven’t been playing too bad either.

“We were down the bottom last season so we know how it feels to be there. We won’t start looking up until we pickup more points.”

Callum Davidson's thoughts

“We are all looking forward to Saturday after not having a match last weekend. Every game from now until the end of the season is huge. We have to make sure we perform at a high level.

“The league is extremely tight. Kilmarnock’s home record is phenomenal. They are extremely good at home. We have to nullify their threats and make sure we are better at the other end.

“Hearts was a tough result to take. I thought our performance level was good considering the outcome. We had a few niggles that match, we are hopeful they will be back for Saturday.

“We are hopeful Andy will be back for Saturday, Nick is still a doubt. Ryan McGowan trained all week so he should be fine.”
