Muzz keen to take positives from Saturday's 4-2 defeat to Celtic.

Saints midfielder Murray Davidson was disappointed at Saints losing their unbeaten streak against Celtic on Saturday, and put the loss down to the team’s first half performance.

“I certainly think the best team won. I thought that in the first half we couldn’t get as close to them as we’d have liked to have and obviously at 3-0, it’s a massive task. We made a better go of it the second half, but we just gave ourselves a little too much to do.”

Pleased with the fight his side showed in the second half, Murray knows that Saints have what it takes to push on if they can take the positives.

“(Tommy Wright, manager) just said that we needed to be better at keeping the ball and against the ball, but we knew ourselves that we weren’t good enough. I felt that our shape was maybe a little bit better in the second half and we managed to throw something at them but it was always going to be very difficult to get something out of it. We gave ourselves a chance, but unfortunately lost the late goal when we were pushing.”

After a dramatic ending, Murray was disappointed to see Saints lose after grabbing two late goals, but felt the team could always carve their way back into the match.

“There was a bit of hope at then end, but there was always hope – even before when we won the penalty. Goals can change football matches, and games can change very quickly, which we saw happen today. At 3-2, if we’d applied ourselves that bit more even five or ten minutes earlier, we could have gotten the edge, but it obviously wasn’t to be. There was just too much to do, but I think it’s been a positive start to the season, and we’ve got another big game next week. There were positives, so now it’s all about moving onto next week.”

On a personal level, Murray has been pleased that he has been able to maintain his fitness and avoid injuries so far this season.

“I feel good, and physically, I feel strong. I just need to try and stay competitive and stay in the team, but I feel as though I could play for a succession of games, which I haven’t always felt in the past. I feel confident that my body can play a full season, and obviously that’s what I’m looking to do.”

Looking ahead to Inverness CT away next Saturday, Murray knows that Saints can bounce back and take all three points if they play well again.

“We’ll prepare like we do for every game. We always look at ourselves and focus on what we do, and we know that if we go up there and play the way we have in the first few games of the season, then we’ll give ourselves a chance. Inverness will be looking to get a result against us, so it’s up to us to get the points.”
