CLUB STATEMENT | SPFL Resolution
10th April 2020
Following today’s SPFL vote, the Club would like to communicate its position on the matter.
Firstly, we’d like to put on record our thanks to the SPFL Board for their continued work in the unenviable task of trying to steer Scottish Football through the current COVID-19 pandemic.
The situation that all clubs find themselves in at this time is unlike anything we have experienced before and, as such, we appreciate the difficulty the Board of the SPFL have faced in trying to satisfy all parties.
Of course, our first preference would be to play the season to its conclusion but we reluctantly accept that this is looking increasingly unlikely. Therefore, we think that it is right to look at other ways to determine final league positions under the circumstances.
We have spent a lot of time on this in order to investigate all outcomes and discussions took place only this morning with the Executive to explore alternative options.
Having obtained further clarity, the Club can confirm we have today supported the SPFL’s resolution.
The Club has not taken this decision lightly and we took into account the respective positions of all 42 member clubs before coming to the decision.
We understand that by backing the resolution, regrettably certain clubs could suffer as a result. However, given the options available we believe that this is the right decision for our Club and also for Scottish Football as a whole.
Finally, on behalf of everyone at St. Johnstone Football Club we’d like to wish our supporters a Happy Easter.
Enjoy your weekend – stay home and stay safe.
