U18s presented with league trophy

Our back-to-back title winning U18s were last night welcomed onto the McDiarmid Park pitch to be presented with their league trophy.

The youngsters recently secured the Club Academy Scotland Performance League by finishing the campaign strongly with wins against both Ayr United and Dundee.

Honorary president Geoff Brown who, of course, has been a huge supporter of the club’s youth development department throughout the years, was on hand to present the trophy.

A huge congratulations to the players and also the coaching staff – Alex Cleland, Alistair Stevenson, Robbie Liddell, Murray Kinnaird and Ian Cooper.

The Peter Steinle Trophy was also presented to the U18 player of the year. Filip Franczak was the recipient.

The award was started in 2013 in memory of Peter Steinle, a hotelier who was a loyal St Johnstone fan, who sadly passed away due to cancer. His family then raised money through the Peter Steinle Foundation, with £500 awarded to the winner every year.

Peter’s wife Jane and son Chris were on hand to present the trophy to Filip, who has been a mainstay and consistent performer for the under-18s throughout the campaign.
