Taylor Steven on his winner for Alloa

Taylor Steven revelled in the joys of scoring a second half winner for loan club Alloa Athletic on Saturday.

The 19-year-old forward, who is with the Wasps through until the end of the season, produced a moment of magic to clinch all three points against Stirling Albion.

Steven’s trademark cut in from the right flank and curling left-footed finish was met with delight by celebrating home supporters.

He quickly ran over to share the special occasion with them before Alloa managed to hold off any opposition pressure in the closing stages of the contest.

“It was a derby and a big game for us,” Steven said. “We didn’t play that well to be honest and it had 0-0 written all over it.

“I just try to get into those positions all of the time and score as many goals as possible.

“As soon as the ball came to me, I knew I was cutting inside and shooting. Thankfully this one went in.

“It was a great feeling to score right in front of the home fans. It was probably one of the best feelings I’ve had scoring a goal.”

Steven had also found the back of the net the week prior in a 3-2 victory away at Annan Athletic.

Alloa currently sit well-positioned in League One and are just one point away from jumping into the play-off spots.

Steven is targeting more goals and assists before the season is out.

“The loan has been going well,” he said. “I’m playing every week and that is all I can ask.

“The gaffer has put good trust in me and I’ve started to score a couple of goals now – that always makes it a bit better.

“I want to keep getting as many minutes as I can and help the team as much as I can. I’m looking to score more goals and get more assists. Hopefully we can get into the play-off spots.”

Steven admits his scoring spree of late has added an extra spring to his step.

He explained: “I’m learning every week. The gaffer is really good and so is the training.

“The confidence is obviously building. As soon as you score a couple of goals your confidence goes through the roof.

“The boys are great, not just on the pitch but off the pitch too. That has helped me a lot too.”
