St Johnstone staff members were delighted to come together with our Saints in The Community staff to help raise awareness of Show Racism the Red Card, by taking part in a football match against our community’s men’s mental health team.

The game was played in a friendly and competitive nature as both teams looked to grab the win. The staff team featured a few familiar faces as St Johnstone manager, Callum Davidson, got his boots on once again to play alongside Saints legend, Liam Craig.

The mixed staff team also featured members from St Johnstone’s hospitality staff, media team, groundsman, Saints in The Community staff, Vice Chairman, Charlie Fraser and Head of Operations, Ian Flaherty.

Safety Officer, Lewis Melloy, was the man in the middle for the first half, with Saints number one, Remi Matthews, taking the whistle for the second half.

The mixed staff team ran out 5-1 winners in the end, with Liam Craig setting up Callum Davidson for the goal of the game. Craig played a beautiful 35-yard lobbed pass to the back post as Davidson dinked the keeper first time.

Liam Craig

“It was a fantastic occasion to be involved in. It was great to see some of the staff at St Johnstone playing alongside our Saints Community staff to help raise awareness for a great cause. It is always a competitive match whenever we play against the community’s mental health team, the lads in that team are great, they really enjoy the matches.

“I still enjoy playing so I like to get involved whenever I can, it was great to see the gaffer join in as well.”

Fran smith, Saints in The Community Chief Executive

“It was fantastic for the trust and club staff to come together to play against the saints in the community mental health team to highlight show racism the red card. It is important that this message is always at the fore front and we continue to drive racism out of football.  Having Callum Davidson and Liam Craig come out to play gave the team a boost as they felt appreciated.”
