Saints Fans Supporting Foodbanks
28th March 2023
Fans Supporting Foodbanks was initially formed in Liverpool in 2015, and has quickly grown into a network of fan-driven foodbank collection points across the UK, demonstrating the power of football communities to stand together, no matter what team you support.
Fans Supporting Foodbanks Scotland was established in 2022 with the aim of having fans of all 42 SPFL clubs involved in collecting food at their games, to support the work of local foodbanks.
Following a period of research and preparatory work carried out by our own SLO Beverley Mayer together with members of the recently formed Fans Forum Steering Group, the Club is happy to support this initiative and is delighted to confirm that Saints Fans Supporting Foodbanks will commence collections prior to each home game, starting with the match v Aberdeen FC on Saturday 1st April.
One of the co-coordinators of the new initiative, Fans Forum Steering Group member Colin MacKay, stated “It’s really exciting to get this initiative up and running at McDiarmid Park, and I’d like to thank the Club very much for their support. I’ve seen how the collections operate at other Scottish Clubs, with the brilliant support of both home and away fans. Football supporters often get negative media attention, but it’s amazing the difference they can make for the most vulnerable in their communities when rivalries are put aside, and they work together to support initiatives like these.”
Our first foodbank collection will take place outside the Ormond Stand this Saturday, 1st April, from 1.30-2.50pm. Donations of dried foods, non-perishable foods, tinned goods, and toiletries are always welcome and for details of specifically required items on a match-by-match basis, please follow @fsfperthsaints on Twitter.
