Ross County Match Preview
14th September 2022

Saints welcome Ross County this Saturday for our next cinch Premiership fixture.
In our last outing Nicky Clark opened his Saints account on his debut as the Perthshire men ran out comfortable 3-0 winners against St Mirren at McDiarmid Park.
Saints took the lead on 26 minutes as Clark showed great composure to bring the ball down at the back post and stab home.
Drey Wright doubled Saints lead just after the hour mark, tucking his effort into the top right corner after Adam Montgomery’s cutback. Saints were awarded a penalty late on after Marcus Fraser brought down Connor McLennan. Graham Carey slammed his effort home to complete a brilliant performance for the Perth side.
Our opponents secured a point in a frantic final 10 minutes against Aberdeen in Dingwall. The Dons took the lead on the 88th minute with a Luis Lopez overhead kick. Ross County equalised late into stoppage time thanks to William Akio when he stabbed home from close range.
Manager's thoughts:
"I am looking forward to Saturday, it already feels like a long time ago since our last match. It was a really positive performance last time out so we will be looking to build on that.
"Even though we didn't have a game i would say the players wouldn't say they have had a break. We worked them hard and we are raring to go again on Saturday.
"Ross County are a very well organised team with a lot of threats going forward. We have to make sure and manage these threats, when we do get chances we have to take them.
"The squad is strong, we have competition for the players on the pitch but also for the players on the bench too. It is a nice headache to have for a change."

Ryan McGowan thoughts
"St Johnstone have been a club i have admired from afar for my whole career. Playing against Saints and seeing the success they have had over the last decade, it is no surprise to me since joining at how good the standards are in training. There are so may positives around the place, it is a real community club.
"We were preparing as normal for Kilmarnock in the lead up to last weekend, when we found out about the postponement we were straight into a double session on Friday to keep the minutes in our legs that we missed out on.
"I would say that Stevie May was our best defender last time out, the way he pressed from the front was brilliant. That standard we set against a good St Mirren team is something we cannot let drop."
