Our under-18s make the trip to the north-east on Thursday evening to compete in the third round of the Scottish Youth Cup.

The young team face Banks O’ Dee off the back of a 1-0 win against Livingston in the Club Academy Scotland Performance League last week.

Kick-off at Spain Park is scheduled for 8pm and attacker Murray Binnie was on hand to preview the fixture.

“I don’t know all that much about Banks O’ Dee, but we do know that they will be a good team,” Murray explained. “Every team is in this cup.

“We need to play our own game and make sure we are also ready for a physical and strong challenge.

“It is really important that we don’t underestimate anyone. We need to go into this game like every other game.

“There is a good vibe about the place after our win against Livingston and we’re really excited to get into cup action now.

“The cups are good experience and, while you always want a good performance, sometimes it is just about getting the result.”

Murray was the scorer in our 1-0 win against Livingston last Friday. The game was watched by new first team head coach Simo Valakari.

“That gave everyone an extra boost and the boys appreciated it,” Murray said. “We were all keen to show what we can do.

“It was a tough game and they pressed us well. But we kept going and that chance arrived for us in the second half. We defended well in the final 10 minutes to see out the win.

“It was a brilliant feeling to get the goal, but I know that I need to keep doing that every week.”
