Preview: St Johnstone WFC v Gartcairn

St Johnstone WFC are on home soil this Sunday afternoon and have been preparing to welcome Gartcairn in the SWPL2.

The fixture is scheduled to kick-off at 1pm at the Riverside Stadium – home of Jeanfield Swifts – and entry is free for all Saints season ticket holders. If not a season ticket holder, it is £5 entry for adults and £1 concessions (cash only).

“We’ve played Gartcairn twice this season and both have been tough,” manager Josh Henderson explained. “We expect the exact same on Sunday, but we’re at home so hopefully we can bring quality into the match.”

Saints sit bottom of the SWPL2 but there remains a confidence within the squad to quickly climb the standings.

Josh added: “We’ve played everyone once in the league now and we have taken positives out of them, as well as things to work on.

“It has definitely been a challenging start for us. We knew we were in a transition period but hopefully we are getting to the better stuff now. There is a lot more depth in the squad compared to what we had at the start of the season.”

He continued: “Teams have been taking points off each other in the league. It’s hard to predict any results, but a couple of wins can lift you up the table. We need to remember that, stay focused and ensure we are still trying to achieve targets we’ve set.”
