Olivia Hurrell named in Team of the Week

In-form St Johnstone WFC striker Olivia Hurrell has been named in the SWPL Team of the Week.

Olivia grabbed two goals in Sunday’s 4-2 victory away at Ayr United in the Scottish Women’s Premier League 2.

It added to an impressive start to the campaign for the former Dundee United forward, who sits joint top of the early scoring chart having found the back of the net on five occasions.

“Being named in Team of the Week gives me a wee confidence boost, but I couldn’t have done it without the other girls in the team - it is down to them too,” Olivia said.

“I’ve really been enjoying my football and I feel like the whole team is gelling together and that everyone gets along well. On and off the pitch we’re best pals.”

The result against Ayr United has provided the whole squad with a lift and now Olivia says the team is focused on producing more performances to be proud of.

Next up is a home game at the Riverside against current league leaders Hamilton Accies this Sunday. Kick-off is 1pm and season tickets are valid. 

“We all know we weren’t good enough in the first half against Ayr, but the management team spoke to us at half-time,” Olivia explained.

“The message about working for each other to get the result really got through and we managed to show that we are more than capable.

“The result against Ayr will have given everyone a lift – and now we’re all just buzzing to get back out on the pitch. We now know that this Sunday will be a tough game, but we also know that we can perform.”

Of course, Olivia will be looking to build on her impressive goal-scoring form and concluded: “I’ve not really set personal targets, I just wanted to be able to score more goals than last season. I’ve already managed to do that. Hopefully I can just keep banging in the goals.”
