Match Preview: LASK vs St Johnstone
19th August 2021
St Johnstone are now only one round away from reaching the European group stages for the first time in their history.
Callum Davidson’s men managed to shock Turkish giants Galatasray with a 1-1 draw in Istanbul before being knocked out of the Europa league at McDiarmid Park by the Turks.
Now, with a bit of continental experience under their belt, they take on Austrian side LASK in what is the Saints last hope for group stage football.
LASK have an impressive pedigree when it comes to European football, they topped a group that included both Sporting Lisbon and PSV Eindhoven in 2019, then they went on to reach the Europa league last 16.
The Austrians joined the Conference League in the third qualifying round where they brushed aside Serbian Vojvodina with a 7-1 win on aggregate.
Saints will take to the pitch knowing that they have cemented their legendary status as players; but also that they can continue their legacy as a team if they achieve the unthikable and bring the European group stages to McDiarmid Park.
