Liam Gordon departs Saints

We can now confirm that defender Liam Gordon has departed the club. It is important we place on record our thanks to Liam.

The local lad, who was offered a new deal, first joined us back in 2015. A boyhood Saints fan, it was a dream come true for him.

The former Perth High School pupil would make his first team debut at the end of the 2015/16 campaign in a 2-2 draw against Hearts at Tynecastle.

As the years progressed Liam would become a mainstay in the heart of our defence following loan spells at clubs including Arbroath, Elgin and Peterhead.

Liam started – and played a starring role – in both our League Cup and Scottish Cup triumphs in 2021. He would proudly represent the club on the European stage too and was involved in games against Turkish giants Galatasaray and Austrians LASK.

It was later that year that Liam was named captain of the club and he said being trusted with the armband was a “great honour” for both himself and his family. He would hold that position for three years.

Liam made 201 appearances for us in total, scoring five goals along the way. We thank him for everything he has done for St Johnstone Football Club and wish him well for the future.
