Saints travel to Inverness for the first leg of the play-off
Match preview
Inverness progressed to the Play-Off Finals as they narrowly defeated Arbroath 5-3 on penalties after the match had finished goalless. Arbroath almost grabbed a late winner Colin Hamilton sent a header against the crossbar.
Caley controversially ended the match with nine men after Danny Devine and Wallace Duffy were sent off. The tight contest went to a penalty shootout and after Arbroath veteran Bobby Linn had his spot-kick saved by Mark Ridgers, Kirk Broadfoot slotted home as Caley Thistle progressed to take on Saints.
Saints ended their league campaign with a disappointing 4-0 defeat to Hibs at Easter Road. The hosts took the lead just before half time despite a strong opening half from Saints. Paul McGinn managed to get on the end of Elias Melkersen’s cross, hooking the ball over his shoulder past Elliott Parish.
James Scott scored a second half hat-trick to ensure that the points remained in the capital. The forward scored his first goal 3 minutes in the second half as he unknowingly got on the end of a McGinn cross. Scott’s second goal arrived on 61 minutes as he converted a Joe Newell cross before the on-loan Hull City man completed his hat-trick 2 minutes from the end as he headed home.
