Saints host Hearts this weekend as the 2023/24 cinch Premiership season gets underway!
LAST TIME OUT
Saints
Saints were comfortably beaten 4-0 by Stirling Albion in their final match of the group stages of the Viaplay Cup.
The Binos took the lead on 11 minutes as Greig Spence headed home an Adam Cummins cross.
A low strike from Lewis Spence doubled the League One side’s lead with 9 minutes of the first half remaining.
Stirling captain Paul McLean scored twice in the first 9 minutes of the second half to further extend the visitors lead. Firstly, The Binos defender headed home a Jack Leitch corner on 48 minutes.
McLean then got his second of the game on 54 minutes as he got on the end of a Leitch free kick to score Stirling’s fourth of the afternoon and end the game as a contest.
Hearts
Hearts rounded off their pre-season endeavours with a 1-0 home defeat to English side Leeds United.
Luke Ayling broke the deadlock on 38 minutes, his angled strike from the right hand side of the box beating Clark and evading Frankie Kent on the line.

STEVEN MACLEAN PREVIEW
“James Brown is a doubt for this match.
“Chris Kane, Ali Crawford, Callum Booth, Nicky Clark and Cammy MacPherson are all out.
“Graham Carey and Drey Wright are both doubts but should be fine for Saturday.
“What I will say is that regardless of that list, we will have a team that is competitive and that is ready to compete against Hearts.
“We know that performances and results haven’t been acceptable, we are looking forward to putting that right.
“I think everybody has written us off, I don’t mind that. It is up to myself, my staff and my players to go and show people what we are about.”

DAN PHILLIPS PREVIEW
“The mood is still positive in camp. We know we have a lot to put right and also have a point to prove.
“I think as a team and as a club we are used to people writing us off and not giving us a chance, we have been in this position before and we have shown what we can do when we are underrated.
“I think we were very inconsistent last season. If we put that to bed, we can start looking up the tabe.”
