Greatest Saintees Book Goes On Sale

A new limited-edition St. Johnstone book compiling a list of the 60 greatest Saintees is now on sale.

It is the new collaborative work of author Alastair Blair and club historian Brian Doyle, who of course co-wrote the previous two books relating to the history of the football club, 'Bristling with Possibilities...' and 'Manifest Destiny'.

This latest work, 'Hagiography: The Great Saints', has been painstakingly researched to rank, in order, the 50 greatest St. Johnstone players as well as the 10 greatest managers and officials. It will no doubt cause a great deal of controversy, because, as Alastair and Brian acknowledge, their ranking of the players and managers is their opinion – and football, as we know, is all about opinions. In particular, their selection of an all-time Saints’ XI (plus subs) will have fans debating for many hours. Just who would you choose to be in your all-time team?

The book is A4 format, full-colour throughout and is a limited edition, with only 450 copies available on a first-come, first-served basis. Brian and Alastair have kindly agreed that all profits from the book will go to Saints in the Community to help the development of the next generation of Great Saints. The Saints in the Community Trust is an independent charity running children's football sessions, as well as other programmes directly benefiting people of all ages across Perth & Kinross.
