Fran Franczak makes international debut

Our youth academy graduate Fran Franczak enjoyed an international debut to remember after starring for Poland U18s in a 2-1 win against Croatia.

The 17-year-old was recently thrilled to earn his first call-up and was straight in from the start for Wednesday’s fixture which kick-started a friendly tournament.

Opening up against host country Croatia, Fran almost broke the deadlock within the first 10 seconds and that would set the tone for an impressive performance.

He played more than an hour at right wing-back and was delighted to be celebrating a well-earned 2-1 victory.

Fran worked his way through our youth academy before making his first team debut last year and everyone at the club is very proud of his latest achievement.

“I feel honoured to have made my international debut,” Fran said.

“Starting the match was a big thing for both myself and my family. I’m happy with how the game went and how the whole team performed – every player was excellent.”

Next up in the friendly international tournament is a game against United Arab Emirates U20s on Saturday before finishing up against South Korea on September 10.

Striker Adama Sidibeh, meanwhile, was a second half substitute as The Gambia picked up a point following a 1-1 draw with Comoros in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Scorpions are back in action on Sunday when they face off against Tunisia. This fixture is also an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and we wish Adama the very best of luck.
