Celtic Match Preview
8th April 2022

St Johnstone travel to Celtic Park for the final Premiership game before the split.
Celtic come into the game after their 2-1 victory in the Old Firm at Ibrox. Celtic came from behind after Aaron Ramsey put Rangers ahead 3 minutes in. Tom Rogic quickly cancelled the Gers early opener as he swept the ball home from close range.
The Hoops went ahead just before the break through Carter-Vickers. The centre-back forced the ball home after a free-kick. Celtic would hold on to claim the 3 points to move 6 points clear at the top of the table.
Saints claimed all 3 points after an early Callum Hendry penalty. Hendry took an elbow to the face on the second minute before stepping up and slotting the ball home.
It was a battling team performance and the Perthshire men saw out the victory to see them move 6 points clear of bottom placed Dundee who held Aberdeen to a 2-2 draw last weekend.
Managers Preview:
“Celtic Park is obviously a very difficult place to go, especially in the form they’re in. It’s a balancing act in games like these, sometimes you need to go and put pressure on as you can’t afford to sit on the 18 yard line and wait for them. I want to go and press and attack them when we can. However, there will be times we’ll have to let them have the ball because they’re a top quality team. If there’s a chance to gamble then we have to go do that and frustrate them as much as possible.”
“I believe with the players we have and the confidence they’ve got we’ll be able to go there on Saturday and give it a right good go.”
“Dan Cleary is available for the game after being touch and go early in the week. James Brown back in the squad as well after he picked up his knock while he was away with Malta.”
