Barry Douglas signs for Saints
21st October 2024
We are delighted to confirm the signing of defender Barry Douglas on a deal until the summer of 2025, subject to SFA clearance.
The full-back, who is no stranger to Scottish football from his time at Queen’s Park and Dundee United, was most recently playing his football in Poland with Lech Poznan.
Barry has also featured for the likes of Wolves, Leeds and Blackburn Rovers and has international experience with Scotland at both youth and senior level.
After signing for Saints, the 35-year-old said: “It is an exciting time. I am looking forward to the opportunity to come in and try to help the guys develop.
“There is a project here. It is a bit of a transition period with the new manager coming in.
“I had a look and it is quite a young squad, so I can definitely bring my quality and experience to help everyone develop both on and off the park.
“The hunger is still there, the drive is still there and that is why I am so excited to be here playing my football.”
Barry took in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Ross County from the stands and was hugely impressed by the team’s performance.
He continued: “It was a good and convincing win. There is definitely a lot of quality in the squad and I think when we start to work with the new manager and his philosophy, the only way is up really.”
Barry will be available for selection this weekend against Dundee should his SFA clearance be granted. The defender added: “We should have momentum now. The squad will have a lot of belief and positivity.”
