STUNNING SAINTS HIT RANGERS FOR FOUR
26th July 2016
Saints bounced back from recent disappointments in tremendous style at McDiarmid Park tonight by defeating champions-in-waiting Rangers by four goals to one.
It was a night to remember for players and fans alike as we roared into a a two goal lead in the opening twelve minutes thanks to a brilliant strike from Cillian Sheridan and a defelected shot from Chris Millar.
Rangers got a goal back in 16 minutes through Sasa Papac but by half-time we had restored our two goal advantage thanks to a Liam Craig header.
The second half saw Saints perform manfully, giving the visitors little chance to settle and Walter Smith's side's best chance came when substitute Maurice Edu lashed an effort just inches wide of Graeme Smith's right hand post when well placed.
The icing on the cake and the goal that finally made us secure came eleven minutes from time when substitute Murray Davidson - on the field only a matter of seconds - reacted quicker than the Rangers defence to pounce on a Michael Duberry header and prod the ball past Allan McGregor to make it 4-1 (see photo above).
A great night for Saints who are now 16 points clear of safety and two points behind sixth place Hearts.
