PEASO ENDS 37 YEAR TOP FLIGHT WAIT

PEASO ENDS 37 YEAR TOP FLIGHT WAIT

26th July 2016

MacDonald's landmark hat trick

Peter MacDonald took home the match ball from Fir Park on Saturday, happy in the knowledge that he had ended the club’s three year search for a player to bag three goals in a game.

Peaso was the headline grabber in the 3-1 success at Fir Park on Boxing Day and he revelled in his first goals since August 2008 when he netted in a 2-0 win over Livingston in Perth.

Jason Scotland was the last Saints player to bag a hat trick when he scored three in a 5-1 win at Firhill and incredibly you have to go back nearly THIRTY SEVEN years to find the last time a Saints player netted a hat trick in a ‘top level’ league match. Henry Hall was the last player to do it when he scored three goals in a 4-1 win over Dundee at Muirton Park.

Saturday’s landmark achievement was Peaso’s second Saints hat-trick – he netted three out of the four goals that gave us a 4-0 win at Partick Thistle in April 2005.

Tomorrow's match against Hibernian looks likely to fall foul of the weather. The McDiarmid Park playing surface and car park has eight inches of snow on it and with no let-up from the wintery conditions in sight, an early call off looks likely. More information soon........
