Saints move to secure former Dundee United keeper

Saints have continued their flurry of early closed-season activity by securing the services of a new goalkeeper.

With long-serving Kevin Cuthbert having left the club Derek McInnes has moved to bring Euan McLean to Perth from Dundee United on a two year deal.

The former Kilmarnock and Sunderland keeper has been at Tannadice for nearly four years but was informed by United boss Craig Levein that his future lay elsewhere and McInnes and assistant Tony Docherty moved quickly to secure the services of the 6’2” keeper.

Docherty said of the signing today, “Euan was on the books at Tannadice for four out of the five years I was at United and he was in my Under 19 team.

“He has a real presence about him, is an excellent cross-taker and it at the stage of his career where he needs to be playing first team football. He is hungry for success but knows he will have to fight hard to displace Alan Main.

“We want to have two very capable goalkeepers fighting for the one jersey and Euan fits the bill for that. He has a great attitude and will benefit from training with Alan who has impressed both Derek and I as a coach and leader.”
