MACCA MAKES THE DIFFERENCE AGAINST TEN MAN CALEY JAGS

26th July 2016

Steven MacLean scored for the second successive weekend and his effort in the second half proved to be enough to give Saints a vital 1-0 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the midday kick-off at McDiarmid Park.

Caley’s David Raven was shown a straight red for clipping Rowan Vine as he headed towards goal within the opening fifteen minutes of the game and although Saints completely dominated possession there was no breakthrough before half-time.

Mehdi Abeid rattled the wood work with a tremendous effort and Gregory Tade also struck the post as we tried to make our one man advantage count but we suffered a blow when Abeid was taken off injured to be replaced Edwards - the Welshman went on to have a great game in his own right.

Saints lost a bit of momentum as half-time approached and the Caley Jags won their first corner in 36 minutes.

The breakthrough finally came in 77 minutes from the head of Steven MacLean who nodded a great Nigel Hasselbaink cross over the line.
