TOMMY WRIGHT TAKES UP HIS ROLE WITH SAINTS
26th July 2016
Saints boss Steve Lomas was joined by his new assistant Tommy Wright at today’s training session at McDiarmid Park as the re-shaping of the management team was completed.
48 year old Wright enjoyed a lengthy career as a goalkeeper between 1988 and 2001 notably with Newcastle United when he first arrived in England from his native Northern Ireland and also with Manchester City.
Like Lomas who gained 45 caps for his country, Tommy also represented Northern Ireland on the international stage, gaining 31 caps between 1989 and 2000.
Starting his coaching career at Norwich City, Tommy was soon back in Ireland and in 2003 took up his first management role with Limavady United before a three year stint as boss of Ballymena United. A year as goalkeeping coach at Shamrock Rovers preceded a return to management with Lisburn Distillery and it was from that post he resigned last week to join long-time friend Lomas in coming to Perth.
