ANDERSON RECEIVES BAN FOR TANNADICE 'SENDING OFF'

26th July 2016

Defender punished for two bookings

The club has this afternoon been informed that Steven Anderson has received a one match ban for his ‘sending off’ against Dundee United last Saturday.

The defender was booked twice during the course of the Tannadice encounter but referee Brian Winter failed to send him off. However, an SFA disciplinary committee met today and voted for the one match ban. The club have decided not to appeal against the decision.

Manager Derek McInnes said of the outcome: “Once we heard that the committee were meeting I felt the ban was inevitable and it was the outcome I was expecting. I think they feel that they have to be seen to do the right thing. The referee has deemed that Steven should receive two yellow cards and a one match ban is the normal punishment for that.

“All I would add is that I didn’t think Steven deserved to be booked twice. The first yellow card was very soft and I am far from convinced that there was contact with their player. However, the fact is he was booked and we have to accept it.”

Anderson will be able to play in this weekend’s game against Hibernian but he will miss the trip to Inverness in a fortnight and he will also miss the game at Hamilton the week after as his ‘sending off’ at Tannadice (his second of the campaign) has taken him over the points threshold for a further one game ban.

The Club have today been informed that the home game against Rangers on Wednesday 29th December will be covered live on ESPN. This planned transmission of the game does not affect the date or kick off time which remains at 7.45pm that day.
