Joe Shaughnessy

Joe joined Saints in summer 2015, arriving from Aberdeen, after he agreed a pre-contract in May 2015 to join the club on a two-year deal.

Joe joined The Dons in June 2009, having previously played for Irish club Salthill Devon as a youngster, and he made his debut in a 3-1 win at Hibernian in May 2011.He then enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Forfar Athletic during season 2011/2012 scoring 3 goals. Shaughnessy started season 2013/2014 playing in the right back position and he scored his first goal of the season, in the third round of the Scottish League Cup, in a 5–0 win over Falkirk. In his final season with The Dons Joe struggle to make an impact on the first team at Pittodrie so he joined Championship side Falkirk on a short term loan deal before returning to Pittodrie.

Joe made his St Johnstone debut in a single goal reversal in a Europa League qualifying match in Armenia against Alashkert. In his first season with Saints Joe made a big impact which saw him pick up several player of the year awards at the end of the season.

Joe continued his good form during season 2016/17 and was the only Saints player to feature in every game. In February 2017 Joe put pen to paper to sign a two-year contract extension at McDiarmid Park, keeping the Irishman at Saints until the summer of 2019. In October 2017 Joe was appointed club captain by Tommy Wright.
