PREVIEW | Hamilton v Saints

17th May 2019

Friday 17 May 2019

It's the final day of the Ladbrokes Premiership season tomorrow as we head to South Lanarkshire to face Hamilton Accies at the Hope CBD Stadium.

With 7th place secure, Tommy Wright will be hoping with the pressure off his players can put in a performance to end the 2018/19 campaign on a high.

For the visitors they have it all to play for as they look to avoid the relegation playoff spot come the final whistle tomorrow.

Looking ahead to the match, the manager says his players are up for the game despite there being little to play for and he is expecting a good display against Accies tomorrow.

"We have fans going down there for the match," he said, "and it's important we put in a performance for them and get a good result to finish the season strongly.

"It's important to the players as well because they're professional footballers and it's their job to win football matches.

"They want to win and I have no worries about their mentality going into the game. Training has been great this week and the players are raring to go.

"We can play with a little bit more freedom and go into the game more relaxed but the desire to win still has to be there.

"We have to match Hamilton because they have everything to play for and will be right up for it.

"We're going to look after ourselves because it doesn't put me up or down who ends up in the relegation playoff. My focus is solely on getting another St. Johnstone victory."

Tommy says that he will make some minor changes to his squad tomorrow which were always planned but insists that doesn't mean he will be taking the game lightly.

"I have no problems with people outwith saying things," the manager said, "and in fact I've already seen some suggesting we might be switched off because we have nothing to play for.

"We want to finish well and the fact they have something to play for adds an edge to the game which is a good thing.

"I'd always planned to make a few changes for tomorrow's game and that's still the case but it won't be wholesale changes that's for sure."

One player who will be included in the squad is youngster Olly Hamilton and the manager believes his inclusion is very well deserved.

"Olly will get his first appearance on the bench tomorrow," Tommy said.

"It may come as a surprise to some but not to me because he's been excellent for the U18s this season and is the top scorer.

"It's good experience for him and it's something we've often done with young players to give them a taste for more first-team action.

"He deserves it and it's a reward for Olly and for how well he's been playing and progressing over the course of this season."

Tomorrow's match is a 12:30 kick-off in Hamilton and there will be live audio commentary of the match on Saints TV.

The full match replay and highlights will be available from Sunday.
