Players arrive in Austria

The Saints players and staff have arrived at their Austrian training base as they prepare to step-up the pre-season training schedule which started in Perth on Monday.

Speaking to the Saints Official Website shortly after arrival this afternoon, manager Tommy Wright said: “It’s been a long day with an early flight from Edinburgh into Munich and then a bus journey from there to the camp which was the best part of four hours.

“But it’s a recovery day anyway and after the hard work put in at McDiarmid Park on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday it’s not a bad day to be travelling.”

As Perth bakes in the incredible summer heat, the irony is that it’s a bit of a contrast in Austria!

“We’ve not brought the weather with us that’s for sure!” joked the manager.

“It’s been raining heavily and is misty and damp but to be honest that’s better for training – in fact, ideal at this stage. The pitches are absolutely magnificent, it’s a stunning setting and a great environment. Double sessions will be the order of the day – they’ve a lot of hard work ahead of them but it’s great to be able to do it here and we’re looking forward to it.”
