Match preview: Saints v Kilmarnock

14th October 2016

St Johnstone will look to continue their good run of form when they welcome Kilmarnock to McDiarmid Park tomorrow. Saints' last outing saw them beat Ross County 2-0 in Dingwall to remain 4th in the league, just one point behind second placed Aberdeen. Saints striker Joe Gormley broke his nose in the development squad's midweek draw with St Mirren, but will be in the squad. Keith Watson and Tam Scobbie both remain out.

The visitors will be desperate for a positive result after failing to win in their previous six matches. Kilmarnock sit 11th in the table after a 4-0 to defeat to Aberdeen before the international break. Killie's only victory this season came away from home, a 2-1 victory over Hamilton.

Saints struggled against Kilmarnkock last season. Despite finishing the season in the relegation play off, the Ayrshire outfit won three of four matches against St Johnstone, one of which saw Kilmarnock knock Saints out of the Scottish Cup.

Tommy Wright is adamant that for Saints to improve on last season, they must take more points from teams in the bottom half of the table.

"Against the top six sides last year we had a fantastic record. But our record against sides that ended up in the bottom six just wasn’t as good. Every game is important and we want to be more consistent in that area. We will emphasise that to the players."

"We know that if we want to improve this season we need to take more points from these games. Ultimately our record against bottom six opponents wasn't good enough last year and we need to change that."
