Match preview: Motherwell v Saints

Friday 17th March

St. Johnstone will aim to build on last weekend's home victory over Dundee when they face Motherwell at Fir Park tomorrow. Last Saturday's fixture saw Saints take all three points against Tayside rivals Dundee, with goals from Paul Paton and Blair Alston.

10th placed Motherwell come into the game with a new manager, with their interim boss Stephen Robinson being appointed full time this week. This is the second time St. Johnstone have travelled to Fir Park this season, Saints were 2-1 victors back in August 2016. The two sides met again in December at McDiarmid Park. Chris Kane scored a late equaliser that day for St. Johnstone.

As announced on the Saints website earlier today, Keith Watson misses out with a knee injury he picked up in training. Club captain Steven Anderson and David Wotherspoon also both miss out through injury but midfielder Chris Millar is available.

Saints midfielder Murray Davidson believes a similar performance to last Saturday's against Dundee will give Saints a good chance of taking all three points on Saturday:

"We knew that the match last Saturday was huge, and getting the three points was crucial for us," he said.

"It means we're now only one point behind Hearts in fourth, and the win has taken us a step closer to securing our place in the top six."

"We know as a squad what we're capable of, and a win on Saturday will allow us to keep putting pressure on those above us in the table."
