Match preview: Inverness CT v Saints

26th August 2016

Saints travel to The Highlands on Saturday to face Inverness CT in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Tommy Wright welcomes back Steven Anderson, Chris Millar and Michael Coulson to his squad for Saturday’s trip north to The Highlands to face Inverness Caledonian Thistle, with Saints looking to bounce back from last weekend’s loss at home to Celtic.

The return to fitness of the trio will be a big boost to the Saints boss as he will be looking for a positive result from his side to take into the international break the following week.

Our opposition, however, will arguably feel an even greater burden to pick up some points tomorrow after losing all three of their opening league matches this season, despite wins in the Betfred League Cup over Cowdenbeath (2-1), Dunfermline (5-1) and Arbroath (7-0).

Trips to the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium haven’t proved to be too successful for St. Johnstone in recent years, however a 10-man win in October last year, courtesy of a stoppage-time winner from Liam Craig, ended a run of four successive home wins for Caley against the Saintees. The matches have also been closely contested affairs with four red cards being shown in the last six fixtures between the teams since December 2014.

On the match, Tommy Wright said: “I don’t see it as being a more dangerous time to face them or being any easier just because they have lost three games. Arguably it will be harder because they will be determined to get that first win.”

He added: “I don’t read too much into previous performances and we always get a tough game up there. We have got to be good, to make sure we come up with a Motherwell-type performance. Do that and we can get a result."
