The club is delighted to announce that 22-year-old defender Liam Gordon has penned a new deal which will keep him at McDiarmid Park until May 2021.

The Perth-born centre back joined Saints from Hearts back in 2015 and has broken into the first-team squad in recent seasons.

He has made nine appearances so far this campaign and has committed his future to the club for at least the next two-and-a-half-years.

Speaking to the club's official website shortly after he put pen to paper on his new deal, Liam said he was delighted to have his future secured and is looking forward to focusing solely on his football.

"It's great to have the stability and have my future sorted for the next two years," Liam said.

"I have known for a couple of months that the club wanted to keep me and negotiations went smoothly.

"I'm just happy to have it all signed and sorted because I don't particularly like that side of things! It means I can focus solely on my football for the next few years."

Liam has been in and out of the starting eleven this campaign competing for a place in the side with Joe Shaughnessy, Jason Kerr and Steven Anderson.

He believes that the competition for places has been a good thing for the team and has been delighted with how the first half of the season has panned out.

"The competition throughout the squad is fierce and there are two players of real quality for each position," the 22-year-old said.

"I feel like when I've played I've done okay but Jason and Joe have been playing very well and the results have been good.

"All I can do is just knuckle down, keep training hard and hopefully I'll be able to get back into the team."

Liam added: "It’s been a very positive first six months. The manager has added a lot of good players this year and I think that’s been reflected in the results we’ve been getting.

"It’s a great atmosphere in the changing room and I'm really enjoying being part of it."
