HALL OF FAME 2019 | Jim Weir

The club is delighted to announce that Jim Weir has been chosen by the supporters as one of two fan picks to be inducted into the St. Johnstone Football Club Hall of Fame.

Jim will be formally inducted at the Hall of Fame Dinner on Saturday 23rd March at Perth Concert Hall.

The former Saints defender joined the club in 1994 under then manager Paul Sturrock and enjoyed 13 years at McDiarmid Park as a player, assistant manager and caretaker manager.

In 2004, he received a Testimonial with a match against Newcastle United at McDiarmid played in front of 3,000 fans. Jim stayed at the club until he departed to become the manager of Montrose in 2007.

Speaking to the club's official website about the news of his upcoming induction, Jim said it was a great honour for him to have been chosen by the supporters and that he was really looking forward to the night.

"I'm absolutely delighted," he said, "I had thirteen great years here as a player, captain, and as a member of the coaching staff.

"I had my Testimonial here in 2004 and the club is always close to my heart. I have so many highlights from my time at Saints.

"I think the first one was obviously getting promoted back to the top flight as captain under Paul Sturrock and John Blackley. And we went on to do well in the Premier League.

"I captained the club in Europe away against Vassa and Monaco which was absolutely fantastic. Overall I had a fantastic thirteen years here - albeit with a few injuries here and there - but I think a lot of that was down to how I played and the supporters recognised that.

"The fans were always superb with me and I'd just like to thank them all for their nominations and for voting me to join what I see as an elite group."

Jim added: "Some of my greatest friends are St. Johnstone fans and the club still means a great deal to me.

"I brought my kids up to be supporters and my son still comes to the games regularly. I can't thank the fans enough. I still live in the area and wherever I go I'm always so well received by the supporters.

"I moved up here in 1995 and since then I've bonded really well with the fans and long may that continue because I think I'll be here for the rest of my days."

Jim joins an exclusive list of club legends including former teammate Roddy Grant in the St. Johnstone FC Hall of Fame and will be joined by four more new inductees.

We will be announcing the second of the supporters' picks as well as more information about the event in the coming days and weeks.

Supporters can still buy tickets for the event at Perth Concert Hall on Saturday 23rd March 2019.

Season Ticket Holders can purchase their tickets at the discounted price of £50, while for non-Season Ticket Holders it's £60.
