CupTie handed St. Johnstone testimonial

Friday 17th February

Saints are delighted to announce the granting of a testimonial to Scottish Cup winning captain Dave Mackay.

The 36 year old defender was forced to give up the game earlier this season due to a persistent hip injury and has since left the club to start his managerial career with Stirling Albion FC.

The Testimonial will take the form of a golf day, dinner and hopefully a match at McDiarmid Park.

Saints Chairman Steve Brown said of the granting of the event: “I’m delighted to be able to announce the Testimonial events for Dave. He’s a club legend and the fact that he was not only a regular in the starting line-up of three different managers – Derek McInnes, Steve Lomas and Tommy Wright – but the club captain under them all as well is the best indication of how highly regarded he was as a footballer and a person.

“We were disappointed that he had to bring his playing career to a premature end but it was the sensible decision for him and his family and it is fantastic that he has already embarked on his managerial career with Stirling Albion.

“He’ll always be welcome at McDiarmid Park and it is absolutely right that fans will have the chance to show their appreciation to Dave at the Testimonial events.”
