POST MATCH REACTION TO DEVELOPMENT WIN OVER PARTICK

George Hunter scored a goal in each half to secure a comfortable 4-2 victory over Partick Thistle in the SPFL Development League, and the young striker feels the side’s excellent performance merited the score line.

“It was probably a fair reflection on the game. We started I bit slowly, and for the first fifteen minutes they battered us really. We got into the game though, and scored the first goal and then a second quite quickly after that. Then we just took control in the second half. They came into it a wee bit, but another goal killed it.”

After guaranteeing fourth place and still potentially being able to finish 3rd, George feels the result epitomised Saints’ excellent season.

“It’s a great way to finish the season. That’s us secured fourth place, and I think Aberdeen have to win their games to go into third. If not, then we get third and that would be a great season.”

With the season finally finishing and Saints confirmed in at least the top four, George puts their excellent finish down to the team’s philosophy and discipline in not getting carried away with their success.

“It’s been one game at a time really. I’ve been trying to get as many goals as I can to help the team and I think fourth is a good position to finish.”

With most of the development team getting some form of loan experience, George reckons the first team action has been crucial to Saints’ success.

“The loan experience across the team has helped massively. I think there were 14 different loan moves from the under-20s this season and it’s helped us a lot. That experience is really getting us through the games.”

With a long summer ahead, George is hoping to catch the manager’s eye by pushing on next season and continuing to find the net.

“As for next season, my goal is to hopefully break into the first team and make my debut, and hopefully get a few goals.”
