GREG HURST HUMBLE AFTER DEVELOPMENT ROUT

GREG HURST HUMBLE AFTER DEVELOPMENT ROUT

26th July 2016

Versatile attacker Greg Hurst bagged a brace as Saints development side thrashed Falkirk 6-1, but isn’t getting carried away with the result.

“I don’t think we deserved to get any more than six, but the way the boys up front were playing with the wingers, we could have scored more.”

After going three matches without a win, Greg knew the importance of a win against Falkirk, and was delighted his side came quick out of the traps.

“I think it’s good, coming to the end of the season, to get a result like that to push us on to the next two matches. The next two are just as important as well, because we’re still trying to finish as highly as possible, even although we know Celtic have won the league. It’s good to get a run and to put in a convincing performance like that.”

Despite making his first team debut earlier in the season, Greg is concentrating on finishing as high up the table as possible for the development side rather than gaining more first team experience.

“My main focus is with the under-20s for now, right until the end of the season. If anything happens with the first team, then I’ll take it as it comes, but my main focus is just to perform well for the under-20s and show the gaffer I can play at first team level.”

Looking ahead to the final games of the season, Greg hopes to carry forward the positives and replicate the results, even if matching the score lines is unlikely.

“I think we just need to take the positives from the match. There weren’t many negatives – I think we switched off for five minutes when they scored but that’s going to happen in a game over 90 minutes. We worked on a new formation as well, and that was the first time we tried it. I think we’ll keep that solid and I don’t see why we can’t go on and win the next two games as well.”
