SWANSON ON SATURDAY'S HOME DEFEAT TO UNITED

26th July 2016

Looking back on Saturday’s defeat to Dundee United, Danny Swanson was frustrated by Saints’ performance against his old club.

“1-0 was probably a fair result. We never really created anything all day. Maybe Murray Davidson could have when he hit the bar, but we deserved nothing from the game.”

Having played better in the second period, Danny acknowledged that Saints have started matches slowly this season, and is looking to combat that trend in the remaining games.

“I’ve heard slow starts have been a theme this season. I’ve obviously not been here that long but since I’ve came it has been.”

Despite having a man advantage, Danny lamented Saints’ inability to capitalise on Dundee United’s red card.

“When they get a man sent off, you expect to get the ball, but we never created anything and deserved absolutely nothing. When they go down to ten men you get more of the play and you can make opportunities but we couldn’t get in and we couldn’t break them down. It was a bad day all round.”

Not convinced by any of Saints’ penalty appeals, Danny put Saturday’s defeat down to Saints’ performance rather than refereeing decisions.

“I don’t think there were any clear shouts. Maybe the one with Steven MacLean, but there was one we never shouted for where he was having his shirt pulled, the other ones I wouldn’t think so – they were a bit soft. We just weren’t at it today.”

Looking ahead to next weeks’ clash with Kilmarnock, Danny knows the importance of winning to achieve yet another top six finish and potentially Europa League football.

“We need to go there and win if we’ve got any plans to get into Europe. It will be a very similar game I think, but the pitch will be decent to play football on, so hopefully we can do that on Saturday.”
