SHAUGHNESSY REFLECTS ON ABERDEEN FRIENDLY

26th July 2016

Following the loss to Aberdeen in a pre-season friendly at Glebe Park, Defender and summer signing, Joe Shaughnessy gave his reflections of the game to the Saints Website.

“It was a good game, it’s more about fitness than results at the minute and I think it was a good work out before Thursday’s game in Armenia”.

“It was good, I think it is better to play against a higher standard of opposition, I think it tests you more and its good preparation for what we have got coming up”.

“With Dave Mackay injured, I know I need to put in performances and get my fitness up and hopefully will get a game. That was the aim for coming here was to get more games because I didn’t really play enough in the last year up at Aberdeen, and that is what you want to do, you train all week and you want to be involved on Saturdays.”

“I think we are leaving (for Armenia) on Tuesday, I’m looking forward to it, it’s a long trip but it is good to be involved”.

Joe was greeted well by the players, staff and fans of Aberdeen (his former side). He played most of the game at Right-back before coming off, but can also fill in as Centre-back.

“It is the first time I will have met them since I left so it’s good. Funny to meet them in a non-competitive game, so it was a bit more light-hearted”.

“It was probably one of the bigger crowds that you will play in front of in pre-season so it was good, to get playing in front of fans in pre-season is good because it’s something you don’t get that often”.

“I played Centre-back all through youth teams, but all my first team games have been pretty much at Right-back so I'm quite happy playing Right-back.”
