Call-ups: Saints on the international stage

The international break is upon us, and three St Johnstone players will be representing their countries over the next week or so.

Here is all the information you need…

Dan Phillips (Trinidad and Tobago)

Midfielder Dan Phillips was called up to the Trinidad and Tobago national team squad for their upcoming Copa America Play-In Qualifier against Canada.

The international fixture will take place in Frisco, Texas at the Toyota Stadium on March 23 and at stake will be the chance to qualify for the prestigious 2024 CONMEBOL Copa America.

Phillips has been given the nod to represent his country after turning in a number of fine performances for Saints in recent weeks and he is now targeting a strong finish to the season both at club and international level.

Dan has ten international caps to his name already and the 23-year-old will be aiming to add to that this international break.

Dimitar Mitov (Bulgaria)

Goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov has once again been called up by Bulgaria and he is set for matches against Tanzania and Azerbaijan over the next week.

The 27-year-old will join up with the squad for a FIFA Series tournament in Baku, matches are scheduled against Tanzania on March 22 and then Azerbaijan on March 25.

Mitov previously earned his first international call-up in the summer – not long after arriving at Saints – and he hasn’t looked back since.

Dimi has made two international appearances to date, and he has also represented Bulgaria through the youth levels.

Defender Sam McClelland will link up with Tommy Wright’s Northern Ireland U21s this international break.

Sam is currently on loan in the Championship with Dundee United and he will look to feature against the Czech Republic (March 21) and Serbia (March 26) over the next week.

The 22-year-old has 12 caps for Northern Ireland’s U21s and he will return to Saints from United at the end of the season.
