Mitov joins charity walk at McDiarmid Park

Long-time St Johnstone supporter Gordon Dunn walked 25 laps of McDiarmid Park on Monday morning in memory of his close friend Fred McKerchar.

Fred, who was also a huge Saints fan, sadly passed away three years ago and 84-year-old Gordon has been determined to raise funds for charity ever since.

Joined by family and friends, the walk started not long after 9am and was completed just before 12.30pm.

Gordon was even joined by goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov for part of the walk and, of course, they enjoyed discussing the weekend win against Hibs.

Money raised from the walking challenge will go to the Princess Alexandra Cancer Research Centre at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

“This is the second time I have done a walk for my best pal Fred McKerchar,” Gordon explained.

“He was a Saints supporter from when he was a wee boy – a good, honest man and he will always be in my memories.”

Gordon, who not so long ago underwent treatment for cancer, was pleased to receive such a warm reception at McDiarmid Park.

“It was nice of Dimitar to spend time with us,” he smiled. “And we made sure to talk about the game on Saturday too!”

Raising as much money as possible for the Princess Alexandra Cancer Research Centre – a facility close to Gordon’s heart – is the mission.

The Railway Staff Club on Perth’s Feus Road has been facilitating fundraising collections and there is also an online option for donations HERE.
