International Saints

History - International Saints

There can be no greater honour for a football player than to represent his country and Saints have had a fair number of players who have achieved that milestone in their career.

That number was relatively small for a good many years but the increase in international travel in the past couple of decades and the resultant movement of footballers all over the world has seen that number increase significantly.

In the same time that it would have taken Joe Toner, the first St Johnstone player to achieve international recognition, to travel to Liverpool in 1926 to take part in his first match for his country, players can now fly to far off places and as a result countries as diverse as El Salvador, Bahrain and Burkino Faso have seen St Johnstone players turn out for their country on international duty.

Canadian Nick Dasovic remains the most capped player, playing 26 times for his country.
